GREMLINS 2: THE NEW BATCH
WHAT EVER YOU DO, DO NOT GET THEM WET!
Welcome to the first Game Spotlight of 2011, this time around it's not really one of the overlooked, I think, titles around, but actually one of my favourite games as a kid, or wait.. I was in my teens by that time. Anyway having already played insanely awesome games such as U*fouria and Batman from SunSoft, plus being a huge fan of the Gremlins movies, I of course had to have the Gremlins 2 Nintendo game.

I believe I wanted it for christmas one year, 1993'ish, but didn't get it - so I ended up trading in some christmas presents to get to rescue the world in the shape of the loving Gremlin, Gizmo. Oddly enough the first cartridge I got was actually broken, I guess the Gremlins were loose in that one.

The story of Gremlins 2 of course takes place in the second movie by the same title, and the story goes like this:

Gremlins 2 is sort of a mix between a platform and an action game, with a very cute GI Joe taking the main character role. The game has 5 stages, each with one or two sub-stages and each stage is followed by a boss fight. Also in between stages Gizmo is able to visit Mr. Wongs shop, which seems rather strange as Mr. Wong died, didn't he?

Anyway, the weapons are just too awesome, it's so ultra violent throwing red tomatoes at the enemies, or when it's getting really tough, Gizmo can throw matches or paper clips, heck he can even fire pencils with a bow made from a paper clip and a rubberband, people it just can't get any cooler than this, seriously!

The leves are huge and with very good variation, the graphics are very nice and not least the cut scenes which are really amazing. The controls and music is spot on. All that combined and you're in for a real gaming treat.

Every thing sounds fine and dandy, and but that I mean cute and easy, but once you've cleared the first few levels the game really shows how great it is, even with the enemies placed in places that are hard to hit, it just makes the game better - and a bit fustrating too at times.

SunSoft games have always been very playable, show me one that isn't, and Gremlins 2 is no exception.

I will highly recommend that you give Gremlins 2 a try, it's really one of those golden moments in the NES gaming history. Well I have to cut this spotlight short as I have to go hunting for my Gremlins DVDs :-)
