Here we have yet another clone distributed by Mastergames, whoever they are, my guess is that they were or are located in Spain as Spain seems to have
been a prime country for NES pirates back in the day.
Well it's quite obvious that the design for the Mega Power II was stolen from SEGA's Megadrive II, better known as the Genesis in the US. The Mega Power
II is exactly the size of a Megadrive II but the weight is roughly 1/3 of the Megadrive II and it kinda makes sense as there's next to nothing
inside the shell of the Mega Power II.
The cool part about Mastergames' clones is that almost all of them use standard NES joypad ports which means that you can use an original NES joypad
with the clone or use the clone joypads, which surprise surprise look like Sega Megadrive joypads, the final revision of the sega megadrive joypad if
I'm not mistaken, which I very well could be, oh well...
The Mega Power II accepts NES cartridges and it supposedly a PAL-B NES clone. However this clone suffers from the exact same problems as any other NES
clone and to prove that the clone actually isn't 100% PAL NES compatible I decided to take the clone for a spin with some of the most garbled European
NES releases when played on an NTSC clone.
The games played are Beauty & the Beast, which becomes unplayable when you enter the level. The second game is gimmick which is playable but you'll have
to play without the status bar at the bottom of the screen. The final game is Aladdin which just hangs when you enter the first level. I wanted to show
High Speed as well, but couldn't find the cartridge (woops!) but I am pretty sure it would've added to the fact that this clone definately isn't PAL
even though me may output a PAL signal.
The clone is called Mega Power II / 700 on a label at the bottom side of the clone. The "/ 700" means that a 700 in 1 multicart is built into the
cartridge and no it doesn't contain 700 unique games, all you get is 7 lousy first generation games, being Soccer, Road Fighter, Duck Hunt, Wild Gunman,
Hogan's Alley, Popeye and Galaxian.
But that's not all though, you also get a nice 8bit version of the Righteous Brother's Unchained Melody.... why not sit back - relax a little bit and
listen to the power of 8bits.... take is away sam (that means you'll have to click play at the movie on your left).
Oh hey wait I almost forgot to mention that the clone of course also included a lightgun... western style too!
