In previous articles we have covered E.M.S' release of their bootleg Action Replay, the N64 Action Replay, which then was followed by a
new product called N64 Passport and E.M.S. wasn't done yet.
Just a quick catch up, originally this device was just a cheat device, but with the introduction of the Passport brand it was also possible to use the device as a region converter, meaning you could play American or Japanese
N64 games on a European N64, or vice versa.

Yet again the Action Replay/Passport received a revision, now to be called N64 Passport Plus. Most noticeably is the return of the Controller Pak manager from the initial release as an "Action Replay" which was missing in
the Passport version, now making a return in the Passport Plus and this time it's actually working, with original controller paks at least. I'm guessing that another reason for the update would be a compatibility problem
with games such as Starfox 64, 1080, Diddy Kong Racing and Yoshi's Story all of which are using a non-standard lockout chip.

Because of the lockout chip contained in every Nintendo 64 game and console, the Passport requires a cartridge of the same region as the system to operate, this cartridge has to be inserted into a slot on the backside
of the device. The "target" game you would like to play is then attached to a cartridge slot on the topside of the device. In the manual for the Passport Plus E.M.S. notes that a cartridge like Super Mario Bros must be
used as boot cartridge, meaning a cartridge with the standard 6102(US/JPN) or 7101 (EUR) CIC lockout.

Unlike the first Passport, which required that the user pressed a key on the joypad to enter an options menu. With the release of the Passport Plus the device would boot to the menu by default. In the new release the menu
version is still 2.0 like the Passport, but the title has changed from "N64 Game Passport 2.0" to "N64 Game Passport Plus 2.0".

I'm not completely sure of how many cheat/region unlocking codes the Passport Plus was released with as my copy was used when I got it - so who knows how much the previous owner(s) altered the cheat code list.
